$20,000 Disappears From Passenger's Luggage At Lagos Airport Screening Point

Corruption is not new in Nigeria. It is found among poor, rich and among leaders that took an oath to serve the country with truthfulness. Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is a government organisation enmeshed in corruption has again been confirmed following the arrest of the organisation's two security officials by the Inspector General of Police monitoring team on Wednesday for stealing $20,000 from a passenger's baggage.

The security officials, who have been flown to Abuja on the order of the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, were said to have stolen the money from the baggage of an airline operator during the screening of his baggage at the screening point of the Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal one.

According to the airline operator who does not want his name in print for now, trouble started when he was to board a 6.5 a.m. flight on First Nation to Abuja to perform a national exercise. Getting to the screening point of the departure hall of the MMA2 terminal, as expected, he positioned his hand luggage on the screening machine and walked through the screening being conducted on passengers by the FAAN security officials.

Two students of Fidei Polytechnic k*lled in cult violence

Two students of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko have been confirmed d*ad in a cult related crisis that engulfed the institution yesterday. The d*ath occurred against the backdrop of reports that the Benue State Police Command recovered a box full of AK 47 live ammunition from four suspects who were hauling the arms to the crisis torn Eggon and Alaago communities of Nasarawa State.

Briefing newsmen yesterday on the two incidents, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, ASP Ejike Alaribe said the police in Gboko last night received a report that two suspected cultists had at 8pm stormed the home of two students of Fidei Polytechnic and shot one of them whose name was given as Akawa on the neck, thus k*lling him instantly.

Alaribe noted that Akawa d*ed before he could receive medical attention, adding that when the news of his death filtered into the institution, students mobilized themselves and went after the assailants. According to him, “They caught up with the two suspects who were identified as being responsible for the shooting, matcheted one of them to death but the police arrived the scene before they meted out jungle justice on the other”. Alaribe said further that two other suspects identified as having a hand in the shooting were also arrested by the police.

On the recovered box of AK47 live ammunition, he said, the four suspects were arrested with the ammunition along the Makurdi-Lafia road by men of the joint operation task force christened ‘Operation Zenda” following a directive by the state Commisdioner of Police that patrols be intensified throughout the state. He said the suspects who were riding in a Peugeot wagon with registration number Lagos, BE 222 KRD were flagged down for routine check by the security operatives but declined.

”Our men pursued them; they tried to run into the bush, but our men caught up with them and arrested them with minimal force and when a thorough search was conducted on the car and the suspects, the box of live ammunition, charms, knives, N96,500 cash, and three hand sets were recovered from the suspects”, the Deputy PPRO added.

Obasanjo Appointed As Special Adviser To World Oil Firm In London

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo now has a new job. He is now an adviser to New World Oil and Gas plc, an AIM-listed investment company focused on investing in and operating oil and gas assets. In an interview he granted TheGuardian of London, the paper described Obasanjo as a roving ambassador of the company, facilitating the firm’s entry into Nigeria and other African countries. The company’s initial focus is in Central America, in particular the Peten Basin, where this prospective formation straddles the Belize and Guatemalan borders, and in Eastern Canada.

Obasanjo in the interview said fighting corruption in Nigeria is not a one night affair. He told the reporter interviewing him that instead of of saying Nigerian leaders lack accountability, he should say they are corrupt. “You are being euphemistic when you say lack of accountability. Call it corruption,” he said. “There is no part of the world where corruption is absolutely eliminated. But [in other countries] that corruption has not been a way of life. When you are found, you are dealt with. And that’s what we need,” he added. Obasanjo who was in the UK to promote investment in Nigeria explained further: “Fighting corruption is not a one-night affair.

“The givers of most of the corruption in Africa are from outside Africa. They do in Africa, [things] they would not do in their own countries. In my part of the world, we have a saying that the man who carries a pot of palm oil from the ceiling is not the only thief. He has an accomplice in the man who helps him to bring it down. The giver and the taker are criminals, and they should be treated as such.” The former president said examples of business success will encourage avaricious minds to look for more legitimate routes to wealth. “I still believe in the opportunities that Africa affords to make legitimate money,” he said. “Africa is one place I believe that if you are courageous enough, you get the money, you can invest and get 25 percent return on your investment annually. There aren’t many places in the world where you can get that return.”

Nigerian Girls Serve as S*x Slaves in Asia, Europe, Africa

Despite the huge effort by Mrs. Eki Igbinedion, wife of former Edo State governor, Lucky Igbinedon, in combating female trafficking in Edo State, a new report released by the United States government has detailed how Nigerian women and girls were trafficked to Asia, Europe and other parts of Africa to be used as s*x slaves and for forced labour. Edo State was identified as one of the largest exporters of s*x workers to parts of Europe, especially Italy.

Mrs. Igbinedion had founded Idia Renaissance, a platform she used in battling the malaise of female trafficking in the state. She mounted strong re-orientation programmes which not only exposed the antics of the dealers, but also equipped rescued erstwhile s*x workers with the skills and enterprise to start life anew in other vocations. She left office when the tenure of her husband expired in 2007. The recently released report titled, '2012 Trafficking in Persons Report', further added that Europol (European Police Office) has identified Nigerian organised crime as one of the largest law enforcement challenges to European governments. The report indicated, “Nigerian women and girls, primarily from Benin City in Edo State, are subjected to forced prostitution in Italy, while Nigerian women and girls from other states are subjected to forced prostitution in Spain, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Ireland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Greece, and Russia.”

It specifically noted that Nigerian women trafficked to Malaysia are not only forced into prostitution, they were also made to work as drug mules for their traffickers. Noting that Nigerian women and children are recruited and transported to destinations in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, where they were held captive in the s*x trade or in forced labour, the report observed some are trafficked to other West and Central African countries, as well as South Africa, where they were exploited for the same purposes. According to the report, Nigerian traffickers rely on threats of voodoo to compel their victims into prostitution often with an understanding on how to repay their “madams or masters”. Most of the dealers who recruit their victims from the rural communities often paint bright prospects to the parents of the victims, especially when they are promised regular remittances of foreign currency from their children or wards who are “working in Oyinbo land”.

The victims on their part are excited about the prospect of “travelling abroad” and earning a living in foreign currency, without knowing that the “work in Oyinbo land” is a smokescreen for prostitution and servitude. While noting that Nigerian government does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, it observed that during the reporting period, Nigerian government has not demonstrated sufficient progress in its anti-trafficking law enforcement efforts. “Roughly, a third of convicted traffickers received fines in lieu of prison time,” adding, “despite identifying 386 labour trafficking victims, the government prosecuted only two forced labour cases.” The report also states that despite documentation on a staggering number of Nigerian trafficking victims identified in countries around the world, the government has inconsistently employed measures to provide services to repatriated victims. It noted that in one particular case and for unknown reasons, Nigerian officials did not assist prosecutors, representing a Nigerian victim in a foreign country, in locating a Nigerian trafficker who was in Nigeria during the case proceedings.

The report also indicted Nigerian diplomats in a neighbouring West African country for referring most of the Nigerian trafficking victims identified in that country to local NGOs rather than arranging for their repatriation to National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) shelters in Nigeria. “Despite the growing number of Nigerian trafficking victims identified abroad, the government is yet to implement formal procedures for the repatriation and reintegration of Nigerian victims,” it stated. In the report, Nigeria was described as a source, transit and destination country for women and children subjected to forced labour and s*x trafficking. The report observed that trafficked Nigerians are recruited from rural areas, and to a lesser extent urban areas, within the country. While women and girls were used for domestic servitude and s*x trafficking, it indicated that boys are used for forced labour in street vending, domestic service, mining, stone quarries, agriculture, and begging.

In this year’s report, which analysed countries from around the world by looking at what the governments are doing to tackle modern slavery, Nigeria slid down the ranking scale from Tier 1 to Tier 2. The annual report grouped countries into four tiers using the 3P paradigm of Prevention, Protection and Prosecution. Tier 1 consists of countries which comply with the minimum standards to combat trafficking in persons, Tier 2, consists of countries that are not yet compliant but are making efforts in that direction. There is also the Tier 2 Watch List, which consists of countries that are in danger of falling down to Tier 3. Countries under Tier 3 are those that do not comply with any of the minimum standards and are not working towards attaining them. For Nigeria to tackle these challenges, the report recommended that NAPTIP, established to coordinate and facilitate government’s anti-trafficking agenda, be sufficiently funded to be able to prosecute trafficking offenders and provide adequate care for victims.

It further recommended increased investigations, prosecutions, convictions and punishments of labour trafficking offences; training of police and immigration officials to identify trafficking victims among vulnerable populations; development of a formal system to track the number of victims repatriated from abroad; and taking proactive measures to investigate and prosecute government officials suspected of trafficking. Speaking while unveiling the report at the Benjamin Franklin Room, State Department in Washington DC, Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, said an estimated 27 million people around the world were victims of modern slavery. She said the report “gives a clear and honest assessment of where all of us are making progress on our commitments and where we are either standing still or even sliding backwards.”

Again, Oshiomhole Escapes D*ath

Suspected political thugs thursday attacked Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, top government officials and stalwarts of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria in Usen town, Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state. A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Louis Odion, said the thugs, suspected to be agents of an opposition party, opened fired on Oshiomhole and others who were on a campaign for the July governorship election in the state in the area.

Thursday’s incident was the second time Oshiomhole would escape death in two months since campaigns for the July 14 governorship election in the state gathered momentum. The governor escaped by a whisker on April 29 when a tipper ran into his convoy on Auchi-Warrake road, during which three journalists were k*lled. Odion said Oshiomhole, shortly after paying homage to the Onogie of Usen, His Royal Highness Oluogbe II, at his palace left at about 6pm when his convoy ran into a barricade not too far from the palace. “Naturally, the security details attached to the governor came down to remove the bar. As they were clearing it, tens of heavily armed thugs emerged from nowhere and opened fire on the governor for several seconds. “Dutifully, the brave security details attached to the governor, supported by an additional contingent of regular policemen deployed to maintain law and order, rose to the occasion.

They were able to shield the governor, key government functionaries and others, including top leaders of Edo Action Congress of Nigeria, to safety without sustaining any human casualty. “But several official vehicles, including Toyota Landcruisers, Hilux pick-up vans and Toyota Corolla saloon cars, were either badly damaged or riddled with bullets. “Apparently annoyed that they missed their target, the thugs later descended on the near-by police post and vandalised it,” the statement added. The state government, while condemning the attack on the governor, however, urged politicians to play by the rules and not to resort to violence as a campaign strategy. The statement added that but for the restraint displayed by the governor’s team, there could have been heavy casualty toll in the attack. The government urged the people to remain calm and law-abiding, so as not to play into the hands of those desirous of fomenting trouble out of fear that they might lose the election.

Loss of womb: Court grants N100m against navy

A Federal High Court in Lagos has awarded N100 million damages against the Nigerian Navy and its officer, Commander C.T Olowu, for negligence which caused grave bodily harm and permanent loss of reproductive organs of a woman, Joy Bassey.

The court also granted interest of five percent on the judgment sum to be payable from the date of judgment until the amount is totally liquidated. Delivering his verdict, presiding judge, Justice John Tsoho, posited that it is beyond denial that the unmitigated negligence and unprofessional conduct of Commander Olowu has destroyed the Bassey’s marriage, fertility and deprived her of peace and happiness.

According to him, “In short, all attributes of womanhood in the plaintiff has been ruined and her humanity generally, grossly diminished for life”. The judge further ruled that there was no quantum of monetary damages that could sufficiently compensate Mrs. Bassey for the agony she has been confined to face for her entire life by the gory incident. The plaintiff, Mrs. Bassey, had sued the Nigerian Navy and Olowu, who is said to be a Consultant Gynecologist/Surgeon with the agency for negligence. Mrs. Marian Jones from the Lagos branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) sued on her behalf.

Okotie's Marriage Crashed Due To Stephanie's "Spiritual" Weakness

To avoid unnecessary speculations that may be trailing his failing marriage, Pastor Chris Okotie, the General Overseer of Household of God, took the bull by the horn and formerly declared that he and Stephanie, his wife of four years, are going their separate ways. The flamboyant preacher and three times presidential candidate of FRESH Democratic Party was alleged to have announced during last Sunday Church service, “Stephanie and I are separated without any further explanation.” Although, many are no longer surprise about broken marriage of top celebrities, as it has become rampant nowadays, Pastor Chris failed second marriage is more interesting. It would be recall that his marriage to Stephanie, a mother of three from different men generated a lot of controversy with many people saying he should not have married in accordance with biblical principle but he quickly debunked such talks, saying that his critics do not understand the word of God.

However, for those who might be wondering why the marriage crashed like badly arranged pack of cards, a reliable source squealed that Stephanie is been alleged of having spiritual problems which Pastor Chris could no longer cope with. As the alleged spiritual problems become mysteries to be unravelled, Stephanie is said to have moved back to Marwa Gardens, where she lived before the marriage. “She did not pack out completely because her siblings and children stayed behind when she got married to Pastor Chris,” said an insider. “They dated for 10 years and married for four years, is it now that he’s aware of her spiritual problems? There is more to that, and probably because she could not give him a child after four years of marriage,” another source said.

Andrew Yakubu Takes over as NNPC GMD

President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday announced the appointment of Mr. Andrew Yakubu as the new Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with immediate effect. Yakubu, appointed with a new group executive management team, will be taking over from Mr. Austin Oniwon, who retired having attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 last year.

Oniwon was retired with three other group executive directors. Yakubu, who is the 15th NNPC boss, is a 1979 graduate of Chemical Engineering from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and joined NNPC 32 years ago. He rose through the ranks to become the Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company and Group Executive Director (GED) in charge of Exploration and Production. Yakubu is an indigene of Kaduna State and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). A statement issued yesterday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said the appointment is “to further strengthen the ongoing reforms and transformation of Nigeria’s petroleum sector, and in furtherance of efforts to achieve greater transparency and accountability in government”. Jonathan also approved the appointments of Messrs.

Bernard O.N. Otti, Abiye Membere and Dr. Peter S. Nmadu as group executive directors (GEDs) in charge of Finance and Accounts, Exploration and Production, and Corporate Services, respectively. Others include Mr. Anthony Ogbuigwe, Dr. Attahir B. Yusuf and Dr. David Ige as GEDs in charge of Refineries & Petrochemicals, Commercial & Investments, and Gas & Power, respectively. The outgoing management of the NNPC includes the GED in charge of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Michael Arokodare; GED, Refineries & Petrochemicals, Mr. Philip Chukwu; and GED, Engineering & Technology, Mr. Billy Agha, who are to proceed on retirement. The president also approved the appointment of Mr. Victor Briggs as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). Jonathan commended the outgoing GEDs for their services to the nation and urged the new management team to be fully committed to rapidly implementing the critical interventions needed to positively transform Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

Oniwon, who attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 years in April 2011, was re-appointed in February 2011 to stay beyond the retirement age to “allow for continuity and full implementation of critical government initiatives in the oil and gas industry, including the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB),” the statement said. He replaced Shehu Ladan in 2010, barely two months after Ladan took over from Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo. Following the sack of Barkindo on April 4, 2010, Ladan, who had been retired from the corporation a year earlier by the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, was appointed as the new helmsman. Oniwon, who served the corporation for 26 years, had been a member of NNPC’s management since 1999 and held various positions within the corporation. Oniwon was the 14th chief executive of the NNPC, and was born on April 1, 1951, in Okene, Kogi State. He started his career with the NNPC in 1977.

How I Masterminded Ningi’s D*ath, Says Suspect

Family and associates of the recently assassinated Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Mr. Sale Abubakar Ningi, were Tuesday taken aback when one Salihu Goni, during interrogation by a team of detectives from the Kano State Police Command, allegedly owned up as the mastermind of the plot that led his death along with two others in Kano three weeks ago. Goni, also known as Kaka, was said to have told a team of police detectives during interrogation that he shared close relationship with the late former police boss, stressing that the closeness put him at vantage to hatch and successfully execute the plot.

“The late DIG Ningi has been my benefactor, he had helped me with money, food items during Salah celebrations and other festivities, and had been a constant visitor to the house, and severally I wine and dined with the family,” Goni confessed. Explaining how he hatched the heinous act, the suspect, who was picked up by the police at Hotoro Haye in Kano metropolis, confessed that he monitored the Ningi’s movement and alerted one Gana Bukar, also in police custody, to lay ambush with one other person now at large. Ningi, alongside his friend and driver, were murdered, while returning from his factory at Dakata Sauna Kawaji Industrial Layout, an outskirt of Kano metropolis on June 5 by suspected gunmen who rode on motorcycle.

Addressing journalists on the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, said further investigation had led to the arrest of other suspects in connection with the m*rder of the late senior police officer. He disclosed that one Muhammed Tahir, 22, was arrested at Dandishe Kurna Asabe quarters, adding that three cans of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered from his shop. The commissioner noted that the suspect also confessed during interrogation to have conspired with several others to launch an attack at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) worship centre on April 29. also confessed k*lling a Customs and SSS officers. “We have widened our dragnet and robust investigation is ongoing and we will do our best to get to the root of the heinous crime in the state,” the police commissioner stated.

There are rumors that Rihanna will attend the BET Awards on Sunday, July 1, to reunite with her love Chris Brown, who is performing. But our source also tells us she doesn’t want to distract him from his important performance. Rihanna is in London today, June 26, and she’s really missing Chris. ”Rihanna already misses her little Chris. She can’t just ‘randomly’ bump into him at a club right now. She’s feeling a little Chris – sick,” our source EXCLUSIVELY tells us.

“Personally if you ask me, a little time apart will be good for them after all the beef that went down in NYC. This is what I think they both need, a few days apart. She does talk about him, though, and sent four text messages checking on him,” our source added.  On the other hand, “she likes him so much she wants him to focus and put all his energy into this performance and not distract him.” We’ll just have to wait and see if Rihanna shows up!

Grandmother 'cuts off' her eight-month-old baby granddaughter's hands

An eight-month-old baby is recovering in hospital after having both her hands chopped off by her grandmother. The incident took place when the grandmother was caring for the little girl while her parents were at work in the Shandong Province of China. The grandmother's motives are not yet known as she remains in a coma since the incident, after she attempted to k*ll herself.

A neighbour, who saw the aftermath of the incident and accompanied the mother and child to hospital, said: 'I saw the woman came back home after work in the early afternoon but only 10 minutes later she dashed down holding her baby, who was covered with blood. 'The baby's hands were gone. 'The mother called her husband, asking him to go back home to pick up the chopped hands. 'She said the baby's hands were chopped off by her mother, who also chopped herself, trying to commit suicide.'

It is not yet known whether the girl's hands can be saved after doctors carried out a 12 hour operation to attempt to re-attach them. If the operation is successful, it is likely the eight-month-old will need further procedures to restore full function.

Man Robs Bank Then Drives To Police Station To Confess

A suburban Portland man says he was so moved by a documentary exploring the cause of the Great Recession that he decided to rob a bank. But apparently the film didn't make enough of an impression for the 50-year-old Gresham man to keep the loot.

The Oregonian reports that Raymond Carl Knudson pleaded guilty Monday to sticking up a Bank of America branch in April, a crime he confessed within minutes of committing. According to court documents, Knudson entered the bank and handed over a robbery note. Then he drove to the Gresham Police Department carrying all $425 of the loot and confessed.

He told investigators he felt compelled to rob the bank after watching "Inside Job," the Academy Award-winning documentary that explores causes of the 2008 global financial meltdown.

Woman arrested for calling ex-hubby a Boko Haram member on FB

23-year old mother of one has been arrested by policemen from Ipaja Police Station, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for calling her ex-husband a member of the Boko Haram sect on Facebook, the social interaction site on internet. The suspect, Afolakemi Mojisola Adeniyi, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the station by her former husband, Alfa Umar Gobir, that his ex-wife posted his picture on facebook and tagged him a member of the Boko Haram.

Umar told the police that he received several calls from friends and associates throughout the weekend, asking him why he joined the sect and that he kept telling them that they were mistaking him for someone else until one of his friends told him to check Facebook. Umar said he was shocked when he saw his picture on facebook and the words written below the picture read: “This is one of the Boko Haram any time you have contact with him, bomb him.” Umar further explained: “I was sleeping on Saturday night when I started receiving calls from my friends asking me why I joined the Boko Haram sect. I was surprised since I did not belong to the sect, but one of my friends called me again and said I should go to Facebook.

He told me that my picture was there as a member of the sect. “I was shocked when I saw my picture on the social networking site.” Umar told the police at Ipaja that very early that day, he went to Ipaja where his ex-wife lived with her parents and reported the case to them. His ex-wife confirmed to him that she posted the picture on Facebook because he told her that she and her child would die. Umar told the police that few hours after the parents of his ex-wife begged him to forgive her, she posted another one on Facebook saying she did not regret her action. The second posting reads: “Am nt regrtn of d pic upload by me 2 any 1.” When Afolakemi was arrested and the police asked her why she did it, she simply said that Umar told her that she and her child would d*e.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ipaja Police Station, Titiladayo Segun, after listening to both parties, advised Afolakemi and her parents to go and beg the complainant for forgiveness because of the little child they have, adding that with the evidence before him there is no way she would not go to jail should the complainant insist on going to court. Gobir told the police that he is yet to decide whether to take his ex-wife to court, adding that he needed to consult his family over the matter.

James Ibori's mistress Udoamaka Onuigbo released from prison

James Ibori's mistress Udoamaka Onuigbo has been released from a UK prison after serving only two years of her 5 year sentence. Ms Onuigbo was found guilty on a three-count charge of money laundering in June 2010 and was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Christopher Hardy of a Southwark London Crown Court.

She was released from prison last week and has returned to Nigeria. I guess in the UK 5 means 2? Ibori himself was sentenced to 13 years, so I guess he'll be out in say...6 years?

TRUE CONFESSION: I Slept With Our Driver To Give My Husband A Child

I am not a loose woman. I am just a woman who loves her husband very much and didn’t want to lose him. I just did what I had to do to save my marriage even though I feel guilty sometimes. It was not easy but I slept with my driver so that I could give my husband a child, but instead, God gave me twins, a boy and a girl... I was married to Philip for eight years. We had no child. “The worst was that I never got pregnant even for a day.”

His mother became so impatient that she started breathing down my neck as she gave me no breathing space at all. She moved in to live with us and practically made my life unbearable – in my matrimonial home. I cannot drink water and drop the cup because she must insult me. It got to a point that she stopped eating my food because, according to her, I should be feeding my children so that they would grow healthy and stronger and not her. “Monica, if you had children, you are supposed to be feeding them with all these food so that they would grow healthy and strong. I am getting old so I don’t need all these nonsense you call food. Take them away and give me grandchildren,” she would scream. She also stopped talking to me, however, the only time she talks to me is when she wants to insult me and remind me of how less a woman I was.

Philip and I love each other so much that he stood by me despite all his mother did or said to frustrate me to leave him. We visited different specialists and they all certified us medically alright. I have visited churches, held vigils and even fasted for days, drank various concoctions of varied colours and combinations all in the name of getting pregnant so that my mother-in-law can stop humiliating me yet I couldn’t get pregnant. At a point, I stopped coming out of my bedroom because it was obvious my mother-in-law had vowed to frustrate me out of her son’s home. Most times, I just stayed in my bedroom and either cries, pray, think and then sleep off because I was scared of his mother confronting me. To make things worse, she sent away the house help because she said, “You don’t need any house help because there are no children to take care of. Take care of your house yourself and stop wasting my son’s hard earned money.” It was just the three of us living at home, “God, I was always so terrified even when I hear her voice from a distance.”

It is so agonizing to say this but my husband usually pleads with me to come out of the room and this makes him feel so sad especially those times I refuse because I don’t want to come face-to-face with his mother. When her troubles became too unbearable, Philip practically threw her out of the house just to make me feel safe and comfortable in my own home. Even after she had left, I could still hear those insults in my head so I decided to take a bold step – I seduced and slept with our driver, Okon. Okon is a young man in his late 20’s. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering but because he could not get a good paying job, he opted to become a driver. I promised to get him a good job if he sleeps with me just once but I never disclosed the reason for this. However, Okon thought I just wanted to cheat on my husband with him.

I planned it during my ovulation so that I could get pregnant, although it was not easy sleeping with another man. I knew I was betraying my husband but I saw it as a necessary action. After a month, I discovered that I was pregnant. So, as promised I got a job for Okon in a friend’s company where he started earning almost N150,000 per month. When I told Philip that I was pregnant, he was so excited. “Sweetheart, God has finally answered our prayers. I am pregnant,” I revealed. When I was five months pregnant, he informed his mother and she immediately returned to the house. She pampered me like a baby and also took good care of me. I never wanted to do any scan but my mother-in-law insisted.

When I finally did the scan, it showed I was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl. My mother- in-law and husband were extremely happy while I felt much fulfilled. “God thank you for compensating me with a set of twins after eight years of barrenness,” I muttered. When the twins were born, the girl took ill for some time. It took a while before she fully recovered after several treatments and this got me worried. Philip and I insisted that blood test be carried out on them to determine their blood group and genotype and then came the shocking revelation. The doctor informed us that although their blood groups are both A, however, their genotypes are AS for the girl and AA for the boy meanwhile Philip and I are both AA.

I wanted the ground to open and swallow me up because I felt Philip would ask questions but to my surprise, he did not. He just said, “Sweetheart, lets go home. We have had quite a long day, you and my babies need to rest.” Three months later, he held me closely and said, “Monica, don’t be scared. I don’t want to know who the father of the twins is. I know whatever you did, you did to save our marriage and I am very proud of you. I promise to always love you and my babies. I promise this will be a secret between us. I love you sweetheart. I know we will have our own children someday.” I wept as he wiped my tears with his hands. I KNOW WHAT I DID WAS WRONG: But at least my mother-in-law is extremely happy with me, that is all that matters. Although, everyone is happy but I feel guilty that I selfishly used an innocent man to achieve my aim. But before anybody judge me; just put yourself in my shoes and think for a moment what you will do?

Young Pastor Impregnates Female Senior Pastor

The Holy book that states that at the end time, so many unholy and ungodly things will happen seems to be right after all with all kind of things happening under this heaven. This is certainly not the best of times for the flocks of Lord’s Delight Ministries (a.k.a Delight Arena) located at No 51 Afolabi Street, Ishibiri road, Ajangbadi, Lagos, as its founder who is currently embroiled in a sordid divorce suit is accused of being impregnated by young pastor.

At the centre of the storm is Pastor Rita Obioma Obiakor, the General Overseer of the church and her minister husband, Pastor Paulinus Obiakor who are both entangled in a web of accusations and counter accusations of infidelity, and behaviours unbecoming of the clergy as the couple dragged itself before a customary court, sitting at Ojo, Lagos, under President T.A Said. The embattled couple is seeking for the dissolution of their 15-year-old marriage. The Orlu, Imo State-born prophetess alleged her estranged husband and father of her four children, has turned a thorn in her flesh. Speaking through her counsel, Godson Samuel, she justified her decision to opt out of the troubled marriage thus: ‘’ My husband is on the verge of destroying all the works and efforts that I have put in place to establish this church over the years”.

Continuing, she outlined the heart of the matter: “I got married to him when I was barely 16 years old, and he, 27 years. Then he had nothing, jobless and looking very unkempt. I started doing odd jobs to make both ends meet. Precisely in 2005, the Lord called me into his vineyard to serve him and show his people the right path. My calling was a prophetic one, so was my ministry. Since the establishment of that ministry in our two-bedroom apartment at Amukoko, the Lord has been blessing us. But my husband was like a Judas to my ministry. He was always behaving abnormally to the members, until I made him a part of the church and also gave him a good post. Yet he wouldn’t let me be. He is always accusing me of sleeping with church members during night vigil or anointing services”. The mother of four furt her alleged that her husband’s greed and jealousy has done much damage to the image she had laboured so much to build.

The disharmony between the couple degenerated to the extent that she was forced to buy another plot of land at Shibiri, Ajangbadi, a faraway suburb, and constructed a new church, thereby abandoning the old church located at No. 1 Bakare Street, Amukoko. She also abandoned their accommodation, as well as give up some members of the old church to her estranged man. “I moved in with my children to a rented apartment close to the (new) church while my faithful members moved into our new church,” In spite of all these, she alleged that he continued to harass her and members of her new church, which consequently began to affect the church’s growth. “So I had to ban him from entering the church and having access to the members too,” she avowed. When however, her husband Pastor Obiakor stepped into the dock to give his own side of the story, he brought a new twist to the divorce case.

The 45-year old clergy in his testimony against his wife alleged atrocities which contradict her position as the general overseer. He accused his wife of defiling the church by sleeping with prominent male members of the congregation in order to raise fund and establish herself financially. The land she acquired for the new church and her new apartment, he avowed were paid for with fund she raised from her illicit s*xual affairs with male church members. “My wife is the founder of the church, but as her husband, I am entitled to be the general overseer of the church. I had suspected my wife was frolicking with the wealthy and influential members of the church, my fears were eventually ascertained when she abandoned me and moved to her new church and apartment at Shibiri with a younger man she employed as her personal assistant known as Pastor Nwachineye,” Obiakor claimed.

He further dropped a bombshell that she was impregnated by one of the pastors she employed. He substantiated this accusation by alleging that she took the man in question to the village and had introduced him to her family members and relatives as her new husband. “That is a big sacrilege because I am still very much alive and active, so why would she take another man to replace me,” he argued. His bitterness towards his wife, Obiakor asserted, was that she has been denying him access to their children. “When I insisted on seeing my kids to know how they were faring, she adamantly refused and urged me to pay a certain amount into her joint account with her new pastor lover. I did that just to make sure my kids are fine and well taken care of,” he reaffirmed. In spite of everything, Pastor Obiakor was not prepared to let go of his wife.

He affirmed that his estranged wife was more like the bread winner of the family before the union ran into troubled waters, that it was she that brought him fame and fortune; therefore, he is ready to forgive her of her transgressions and even take her back as his wife if only she would withdraw the suit. The case was later adjourned for further hearing. Meanwhile, the whole scenario from another angle is that the entire members of the church have summoned their pastor that should she return to that man 'hubby' it is definitely going to be just her and her family that will be congregation.

31 Nigerian Prostitutes To Be Deported From Denmark

31 illegal Nigerian immigrants in Copenhagen, Denmark were all arrested on prostitution on Thursday morning, rounded up in a police sweep of Istedgage, Vesterbro district of the city. 20 other suspects fled the scene and evaded capture during the raid. Those caught were charged with holding false residency permits, working without a premit and vagrancy.

The women will be counselled by social workers trained in dealing with trafficking victims while their immigration statuses are verified, and are scheduled to appear in court over the next few days. There has been an increase in African prostitutes in the city, which, thanks to legal prostitution in the country, has drawn an increasing number of immigrant prostitutes that Kjeld Farcinsen of the Copenhagen Police decscribed as “increasingly aggressive.”

“When our undercover officers approach them, the women make no attempt to hide the fact that they are offering s*x for money,” Farcinsen told Politiken newspaper. Farcinsen went on to say that the city’s police will be conducting more night raids in the coming weeks, in hopes of catching more illegal pr*stitutes. Prostitution is legal in Denmark and carefully monitored, but non-residents are not allowed to engage in the profession. Nigerians form the largest contingent of Africans working in the trade.

Yabatech Female Student Drugged, R*ped By Fellow Student On Campus

A student of Yaba College of Technology, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, Adegoke Kehinde, has been arrested by the police for allegedly drugging and r*ping a female student (name withheld) on campus. The 24-year old Kehinde has been charged before the Yaba Magistrate’s court on a two-count charge of r*pe and assault.

We gathered that Kehinde reportedly lured the teenager to a spot within the school dormitory at about 10 p.m. on the day he allegedly committed the act and offered her drugged soft drink. She was said to have slept off immediately she drank it. This allegedly enabled Kehinde to r*pe her. The defendant reportedly confessed to the police that he had tried to have s*x with her to no avail prior to that day. He said he administered the drug on her drink so that she would get intoxicated and allow him have s*x with her.

We gathered that the victim became conscious the next day when she woke up n*ked on a bed with sperm dripping from her body. She felt humiliated and reported the matter to the police at Sabo, Yaba Division The police later arrested and charged Kehinde to court under Sections 237 and 266 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The defendant was remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi as he could not meet the bail condition.

SUNDAY PRISON BREAK UPDATE:Boko haram Free 40 of Their Member in Damaturu Prison

Suspected members of the Jam’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad otherwise known as Boko Haram, yesterday, staged a daring attack on the Damaturu prison on Gashua Road, and set free 40 of their members who were being detained. A fleeing inmate was said to have been k*lled while a prison warder was injured during the attack.

Police spokesperson, Mr Frank Mba, who confirmed the incident, said unknown gunmen staged a jailbreak yesterday in Damaturu and freed about 40 inmates, adding that a prison warder was injured and that one fleeing inmate was k*lled in a gunfight. In another development, spokesman of the Boko Haram sect, Abu Qaqa, has said the sect was not responsible for bomb that was found in a mosque in Kano, on Friday. Qaqa in a statement, yesterday, said: “In respect of what we heard in the media yesterday (Friday) that some people attempted to detonate a bomb in a Juma’at mosque in Kano, this movement Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad hereby dissociates itself from this act.

“We are fully aware of this kind of conspiracy by the SSS, following a similar pattern of their counterparts in other countries to tarnish the image and reputation of Islamic fighters, they will not succeed, God’s willing. “Everyone knows that we are waging Jihad to restore the supremacy of Islam, which is why we are labelled ‘Muslim fundamentalists’, how on earth can we then attempt to destroy a Muslim place of worship. This is, therefore, a conspiracy by those that are averse to the enthronement of an Islamic state, and they will not succeed by God’s grace.”

Why I sacked Azazi – Jonathan

The live media chat was anchored by Ohi Alegbe with Tribune Editor, Edward Dickson; Ishak Modibo Kawu, Vanguard columnist and Maupe Ogun of Channels as panellists. Giving reasons for the recent sack of Azazi as NSA and Dr. Haliru Bello as Minister of Defence, he said that the security challenges faced by the administration has overtime evolved through various stages and forms necessitating changes in the administration to combat the growing insurgency.

Jonathan said his decision to change his National Security Adviser is to conform with the changing tactics of the Boko Haram sect. According to him: “if you study the evolution of Boko Haram, they are changing their tactics every day, so you also have to change your staff and personnel to beat their styles.”

Man with 97 wives debunks d*ath rumour

The controversial Bida-based Islamic cleric and husband of 97 wives, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Masaba, on Sunday, debunked the rumour of his d*ath, saying, ''I am hale and hearty. The rumour of my d*ath is not true.'' The rumour of the death of the 87-year-old record polygamist spread like fire in harmattan on Saturday, especially in the mass media, leading to phone calls and the handing down of instructions by editors to their reporters to get update on the issue.

According to the rumour mill, the cleric died at about 7.45 p.m. during an undisclosed brief illness. Nigerian Tribune investigation revealed that no sooner than the news of the death broke that some of his teeming followers trooped out en masse to his residence with the intention of confirming the news. They were, however, taken aback when they met their leader conducting a preaching session. An online news outfit, www.ckn.com,had earlier confirmed the purported passing on of the cleric. In a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Masaba, who spoke fluently in Yoruba language, refuted his purported d*ath and when asked about his condition, he replied: ''I am not d*ad. I am well and I am alive. You can hear my voice.

I wish you can come here to see for yourself. We have a mission and insha Allah we shall carry out our assignment.'' He said he was not perturbed by the rumour of his d*ath, blaming the development on his perceived detractors. “We not moved by all these rumours. It is one of the evil plans to distract our attention, but we are focused with the assignment Allah has given us,” he said. Also reacting to the rumour, the Personal Assistant to the cleric, Alhaji Mutairu Salaudeen Bello, who said he had been receiving phone calls from within and outside the country and that people had been trooping in to see their leader, who he said was in good health.

BOKO HARAM SCARE;Churches record low turnout in Nigeria

SECURITY was on red alert on Sunday in Kaduna as the state government relaxed the curfew between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. to enable Christians to attend church services across the state. Soldiers and armed policemen were stationed near churches to scare away trouble makers while helicopters on surveillance hovered in the sky as the worshippers were in churches.

However, there was no report of any crisis in the state during church services, even as many were seen rushing back home to beat the 1.00 p.m. deadline. The Kaduna State governor, Mr Ibrahim Yakowa, had earlier admonished the Christians to maintain peace and orderliness similar to what their Muslim counterparts did on Friday. Yakowa held a meeting with all members of the National Assembly from Kaduna State and appealed to them to contribute to the search for sustainable peace in Kaduna. The state House of Assembly members were also in attendance, including commissioners. The governor asked them to ensure that a repeat of the current crisis was never witnessed again and urged them to go back to their respective constituencies and work with their people in the quest for peace.

The governor told them that government would continue to vigorously pursue the issue of job creation and skills acquisition programmes to ensure that the youth were fully engaged. The issue of securing major entry roads into Kaduna was also discussed. Senator Ahmed Makarfi spoke on behalf of the senators while Honourable Garba Datti CPC, (Sabon Gari) spoke for the House members. The speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly spoke for members of the state assembly. Later, the governor moved to the women’s multi-purpose hall where he met with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslims’JNI from all the 23 local government areas in the state.

They were urged to preach peace to their adherents and continue with the task of praying for the state and calming down their members. At the Government House, the governor met with all the 23 interim local government chairmen and urged them to ensure the sustenance of total peace in their domains. He also asked them to work closely with both religious and traditional leaders in their domains. He also met with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and told them that they will partner more strongly to ensure that the state witnesses more peace. The issue of engaging youths was discussed and the need for prompt prosecution of offenders to serve as a deterrent to others. He urged them to put political differences aside and work for the restoration of peace in Kaduna State. Meanwhile, churches in different parts of Plateau State, especially in Jos, the state capital recorded low turnouts of worshipers on Sunday as most people stayed indoors as a result of the threat by the dreaded Boko Haram sect to unleash mayhem on worshipers.

Prior to Sunday, rumour had been doing the rounds with text messages flying around that the Boko Haram sect planned to make the weekend miserable for the people of Jos and its environs, hence the heavy security build-up in and around Jos. Nigerian Tribune findings revealed that the poor turnout was also attributed to the insinuation that the state government and the security agencies ordered the citizens of the state to stay at home as part of the security measures to arrest the situation. Speaking with newsmen while going round churches within the state capital on Sunday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Dipo Emmanuel Ayeni, charged residents of the state to always be security conscious and vigilant. The police boss implored church authorities to put more security checks in place and impress it on their members to avoid clustering around the church premises after service. Plateau State Commissioner for Information, who was on the entourage of the Commissioner of Police, Pastor Yiljab Abraham, said state government was doing everything possible to ensure the safety of worshippers in the state, adding that the government was working on a bill on how to secure worship centres.

TRAGEDY! Family of 6 k*lled in Jos

A family of six including a six-month old child and a 70-year old grandmother were yesterday brutally m*rdered by gunmen at Kumpun village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. In Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, the police command has discovered a hideout in Koto – Karfe area of the state where guns were being locally manufactured. In Kano State, the Joint Military Taskforce, JTF, also yesterday discovered a high calibre Improvised Explosive Devise, IED, in the premises of Waje Friday Jumat Mosque in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

The JTF also arrested four persons while allegedly trying to plant the bomb in the mosque. This was even as there was pandemonium in the Zone 5 area of Abuja, yesterday evening, following a bomb scare, with some offices in the ever-busy environment quickly evacuating as business men and women also hurriedly closed shops and residents scampered for safety. In Minna, Niger State capital and environs, business activities were also temporarily disrupted yesterday afternoon as rumour of attacks by members of an Islamic sect, Boko-Haram filtered into town.

The rumour which started barely an hour to the Friday Juma’at Mosque climaxed as some shop owners closed shops for the day’s business while many traders at the Kure ultra modern market and other markets around the metropolis also hurriedly followed suit. However, six other people were injured in Plateau State when the assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and said to have numbered over 30 stormed the village at about 3.30am wielding guns and machetes. An eyewitness said the attackers k*lled six members of the Dakibang family in their sleep and injured two other members of the family who were hit with machetes as they tried to escape before moving to other houses in the village where they injured four other people.

They reportedly shot sporadically while some of them attacked those trying to escape with dangerous weapons and operated for about two hours before escaping through a bush path. Security men to whom distress calls were made allegedly arrived at the village an hour after the attackers had gone. Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. John Clark Dabwang who visited the affected village to commiserate with them described the attack as barbaric and wicked.

He wondered why people would hack down fellow human beings in cold blood and appealed for calm among the people urging them not to carry out reprisals. Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent Emmanuel Abuh confirmed the attack and the six k*lled adding that investigations were on to track down the perpetrators. In Kano State, the Waje Friday Mosque lies within the expanse of land that separate the predominantly Christian quarters and the indigenous Hausa.
